Over the last few weeks, I had the chance to volunteer to educate young children in a less privileged Egyptian school. I wasn’t delivering an ordinary school subject, it was a 5 week program called “Discover Yourself – اكتشف نفسك” developed by Injaz Egypt. Unlike their daily classes the program depends on involving the students in engaging activities, it helps middle school students to start thinking differently about themselves, their lives and their future. It helps them unchain their minds a bit, and set their imagination free of the limitations of the traditional school syllabus. Although I’ve been training adults for a while now, educating children wasn’t an easy task at all, but eventually it’s fun, and honestly it’s a responsibility that we all need to take.
Giving back actually gave me a great feeling; it gave my life a sense of meaning and purpose. The more I was helping those kids develop and open their eyes to different aspects of life beyond the borders of their classroom & the limits of the formal education they are receiving, the more I was developing and learning myself. It has been scientifically proven that people who participate in volunteering activities have better mental and physical health, become happier and positive, their energy elevates, their productivity boosts, and they acquire new skills and stretch their capabilities.
My humble piece of advice to anyone reading this is to volunteer right away, don’t think twice when you come across a volunteering opportunity, you have a great role to play in raising your community, and you deserve to feel the joy and self-satisfaction of paying forward.
Thanks Injaz Egypt for this opportunity.
