It’s okay to be slow, but it’s not okay to do nothing. One of the biggest challenges that face someone when working on their dream is the fear of not progressing up to their own expectations, or in other words, up to the same level of care and passion they have towards that dream. They want to see great results quickly before they lose faith. They want a constant speed and acceleration towards their goal. They’re afraid a slow pace might mean they are chasing a mirage. So they eventually enter an infinite loop of self-blame for being slow, or never even start in the first place.
Instead we have to think of it that way; when working on something you love, every micro step towards your goal is an achievement worth being grateful for, and it leads to the next one. In his interview with Charlie Rose, Hollywood Star Will Smith made it very simple, he said:
You don’t try to build a wall, you don’t set out to build a wall, you don’t say “i’m gonna build the biggest, baddest, greatest wall that’s ever been built!”, you don’t start there. You say “i’m gonna lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid”, and you do that every single day, and soon you’ll have a wall.
Be a turtle, but don’t be a tree. Terribly slow progress is unbelievably much better than standing still.
